Frequent collaborator Edward Liang returns with his fifth original choreography for Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT). Having impressed with Age of Innocence and Opus 25, Liang will premiere his yet-untitled work at next week's Masterpiece In Motion, SDT's annual showcase.

Also premiering is SDT's recent acquisition, George Balanchine's neo-classical masterpiece The Four Temperaments, which he created in 1946.

In what was to be one of his earliest experiments, Balanchine abandoned the idea of a narrative to focus on pure emotions. The Four Temperaments was the perfect vehicle for his leaner, sharper, conceptual choreography because it drew on the classical idea of the four temperaments - Melancholic, Sanguinic, Phlegmatic and Choleric. The work was hailed as an instant masterpiece on its debut.
