FIVE kmh may not sound like much in the world of fast cars but it is a pointed statement that the new Audi R8 is making. The second-generation mid-engined two-seater is the fastest production Audi ever with a top speed of 330 kmh - 5 kmh more than the Lamborghini Huracan, which shares the same basic powertrain.

Nine years ago, when the first R8 was unveiled, Audi emphasised that it was a high-performance car, not a super sports car.

But with the new R8 V10 plus, the German premium carmaker's flagship sports model has undeniably accelerated into supercar territory. The R8 has a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine driving all four wheels. It has two levels of tune - 540 hp and 540 Nm as the R8 V10; and 610 hp and 560 Nm as the R8 V10 plus.
