Festive Blockbusters

Going to the cinema is a big part of Chinese New Year for many Singaporeans and a nice break from house visits. So expect a smorgasbord of star-studded blockbusters all opening over the course of next week. First up is Enter the Fat Dragon (Jan 23), starring Donnie Yen fresh from the success of Ip Man 4. The film is a remake of the 1978 Sammo Hung kung fu comedy that pokes fun at Bruce Lee's martial arts classic, The Way of the Dragon. If you're in the mood for action, don't miss Jackie Chan's Vanguard (Jan 25). Directed by his long-time collaborator Stanley Tong, the globetrotting thriller (pictured) is touted as Chinese cinema's answer to Hollywood's The Fast and Furious franchise but with even more firepower and stunts. Also opening on the same day is a reboot of the long-running star-studded comedy series, All's Well Ends Well. The ensemble cast this year is led by Raymond Wong and Julian Cheung.
