Festive drinking raises English alcohol consumption by 24%

EVER fudged the truth to your doctor about your drinking habits? Turns out the English are doing it to the tune of 12 million bottles of wine each week.

Drinkers in England admit to guzzling 120 million extra units of alcohol a week, or 24 per cent more, once bank holidays, birthdays, weddings and special occasions are taken into account, according to a survey of more than 4,600 people published on Friday in the journal BMC Medicine. That's the equivalent of 12 million bottles of wine.
