Fifa ethics committee opens proceedings against CONCACAF's Webb

[ZURICH] The ethics arm of world soccer's governing body has opened formal proceedings against former Fifa vice president Jeffrey Webb, it said on Wednesday.

The ethics committee's adjudicatory chamber opened proceedings against the former head of CONCACAF, the governing body for soccer in North and Central America and the Caribbean, following an investigatory report.

"The final report was transmitted to the adjudicatory chamber on 26 April 2016, with a recommended sanction of a lifelong ban from all football-related activities," Fifa's Ethics Committee said in a statement.

Mr Webb, a Cayman Islands national, was arrested in May in Zurich, along with six other current and former Fifa officials, as US authorities announced a sweeping investigation of corruption in soccer. The arrests were part of a wider US probe of bribery and kick-back-related offences that has rocked the sport's governing body.
