How Loneliness Goes - By Nguan (Singapore)
ASK artists whom they think is Singapore's most underrated artist, and the name "Nguan" pops up a lot. Though his photographs have been exhibited and raved about in other countries, not many people in Singapore are acquainted with images of the 41-year-old shutterbug. It could be because they're so bleakly subtle that they're often thought to be artless. This exhibition showcases his snapshots of ordinary Singaporeans in commonplace situations, but there's an undercurrent of melancholy in each one, a blink-and-you'll miss-it intimation of urban isolation.
