Food For Less
In 2015, Singapore generated a total of 785,500 tonnes of food waste, according to the National Environment Agency (NEA). Such scary statistics were what inspired ex-bak kut teh seller Tan Jun Yuan to find a solution by developing a food discount app, 11th Hour. It lists promos from restaurants wanting to attract customers during off-peak hours, as well as end-of-the-day deals where leftovers can be sold at discounted rates. So far, almost 200 F&B outlets have signed on, including Swensens, YogurtStop, and even upscale restaurants like The Black Swan.
Each offers a minimum 30 per cent discount.
