Hey Cheese Tea
Fancy a cuppa with a layer of cheese on top? It's not so much about combining an entire breakfast into one cup, but rather the latest food fad to sweep China and now, transported to our shores.
HEYTEA was founded by entrepreneur Nie Yunchen who spent his time experimenting with various combinations before discovering that a frothy layer of cheese "helps to mask the bitter tannins of tea, giving an interesting salty depth to the flavour profile". His idea to make traditional Chinese tea hip for millennials was launched in 2012, and since then, millennials have been forming long queues outside its 100 plus locations in China including Beijing and Guangzhou.
HEYTEA sources its own tea leaves, and uses rock sugar and only Anchor cheese from New Zealand to keep quality consistent, and it also has fruity flavours as well. The Singapore outlet is its first outside China - so if you can't beat them, join the queue.
