Let's Be-Gin
Move over sake and whisky. Japanese distilleries are moving into the gin market, with Beam Suntory making its debut with Roku -a premium craft gin.
Meaning "six" in Japanese, Roku uses six traditional Japanese botanicals: sakura flower and leaf, yuzu peel, sencha tea, gyokuro tea and sansho pepper. These are combined with the eight traditional gin botanicals which include angelica root and juniper berry. The result is a complex yet harmonious gin with a smooth and silky texture, a sweet and floral aroma, with a little spiciness to the finish. Enjoy it on the rocks or in a Japanese Gin & Tonic with slices of ginger to complement the citrus top notes.
