HERITAGE food doesn’t necessarily mean dredging up long-lost recipes and replicating the tastes of long ago. Over the next few months, diners will see a new face of tradition as chefs draw inspiration from the cultures they come from to craft their own personal narratives. In Friday’s issue of BTLifestyle, we speak to chefs of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Korean origin who are launching new dining concepts that promise food lovers a new way of appreciating the cooking they grew up with.

For arts lovers, the Singapore International Festival of the Arts kicked off last weekend with an exciting calendar of events that will keep you occupied right up to Jun 4. Get a close-up look at how the festival is shaping up with our reviews of four of its opening shows.

Meanwhile, for handbag aficionados looking for intriguing new designs, check out the work of two Singapore-based designers who were spurred to create their own leather lines after tiring of being on luxury brands’ waiting lists, and simply wanting to stand out from the rest.

And in Dining, Dempsey regulars have a new place to hang out at with the opening of the new Spanish restaurant Tinto, the latest venture of chef-couple Daniel and Tamara Chavez. For the latest in restaurant happenings and events aroud town, get your copy of BT this Friday.
