Not all Burgundies are expensive
VOSNE-Romanee is the commune with the most luscious of red Burgundies, the home of famous names such as Romanee-Conti, La Tache, Richebourg, Vosne-Romanee 1er cru Malconsorts, etc. It is no wonder that this commune has been called "the greatest Pinot Noir village on earth" (Clive Coates, The Wines of Burgundy). Its lush, soft full-bodied wines are lovely to drink, and not all are stratospherically expensive. Excluding Romanee-Conti, La Tache and Domaine Romanee-Conti's Richebourg, the rest can be quite within range of a modest budget.
Richebourg 1990, Domaine Romanee Conti Sept 6, 2017, wine dinner at home, featuring burgundies from 1999 vintage
Very dark red, hardly any trace of brown, densely coloured to the rim. Full rich lush bouquet of ripe strawberries; on the palate dense, lush, ripe fruit, well-balanced, very good length. Still youthful maturity. A lovely drink.
