AUCTION house Sotheby’s continues to expand its reach into South-east Asia with its first live spirits auction in Singapore, alongside a sale of modern and contemporary artworks. Star lots from Japan include the Karuizawa 1965 Japonisme for La Maison Du Whisky’s 60th anniversary and the Karuizawa 1965 Sherry Cask, both legends in the whisky world.
The auction also has a selection of Scotch whiskies, including the rare Bowmore Trilogy 1964 set, containing the Bowmore Black, White and Gold. The set was released by the renowned distillery in 2007 and 2008, and is much sought after by whisky collectors.
When Sotheby’s held its first spirits online sale in Singapore at the end of 2023, 30 per cent of the participating bidders were new clients. It convinced the auction house that Singapore is a flourishing market for spirits and wine. The upcoming auction, set to be held this Sunday (Jun 9), features 190 lots with a total combined estimated value of S$1.4 million.
