Foodie Folklore
Many of us have personal stories to tell that are related to food. So perhaps it's not surprising that HBO's latest offering is an anthology of Asian stories set around food. Titled Food Lore, the series features eight hour-long stories shot in various Asian countries including India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Each episode tells a different story with a little spice of Asia. And each is directed by one of the region's most promising auteurs, such as Malaysia's Ho Yuhang, Thailand's Pen-Ek Ratanaruang and Vietnam's Phan Dang Di. The entire series is helmed by award-winning Singapore filmmaker Eric Khoo whose previous films Ramen Teh (2018) and Mee Pok Man (1995) have also featured food themes.
Food Lore premieres on Nov 3 at 10pm on HBO GO and HBO.
