Free Guy makes strong debut at top of US box office
The US$100m movie, playing exclusively in theatres, hauled in US$26m; Don't Breathe 2 took second spot

DESPITE concerns that the Delta variant would keep moviegoers at home, Ryan Reynolds' sci-fi action comedy Free Guy had a better-than-expected start at the North American box office. The movie, from Disney and 20th Century Studios, collected US$26 million from 4,165 North American theatres.
Given its production budget of above US$100 million, those ticket sales would not be much to celebrate in pre-pandemic times, but is not a bad result as a plague sweeps the globe.
