Trenton, New Jersey
NEW Jersey Governor Chris Christie has vetoed a bill that would have stopped farmers from confining breeding pigs in so-called gestation crates, which opponents including comedian Danny DeVito and Daily Show host Jon Stewart called inhumane.
Mr Christie, a 52-year-old Republican weighing a presidential run in 2016, said the measure was unnecessary and the devices should be regulated by state agriculture officials, not lawmakers.
