The greenest run in Singapore

OF the many mass running events that are held in Singapore throughout the year, perhaps the most unique is the Income Eco Run. Billed as "South-east-Asia's premier eco-run", the event (formerly known as the NTUC Income Run 350) goes all out to champion environmental conservation and encourages people of all ages to do their part for this cause.

For instance, those who pledge to be "zero-waste runners" will not receive a finisher t-shirt or a medal at the end of the event - part of the broader effort to reduce production waste.

At last year's event, the organisers and race owner - insurer NTUC Income - didn't give out medals to 1,500 runners, and this resulted in about 150kg of metal being saved. About 88kg of textile was also saved because fewer t-shirts needed to be produced. The race pack entry collection venue also doubles up as a farmers' market where local and eco-vendors are able to engage with the community.
