Han debuts Viet golf course
The landscape has a very European feel to it, and what sets it apart is the use of bentgrass.
IT'S not a given but many professional golfers tend to move into golf course design either after hanging up their spikes or even when juggling that new career direction with their Tour playing commitments.
Illustrious names include the legendary Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Gary Player, as well as Colin Montgomerie, Sir Nick Faldo and Greg Norman. And this year even saw Tiger Woods showcasing his first course design in Mexico. Former touring professional and current chairman of the Asian Tour, Kyi Hla Han, has now thrown his cap into the ring and come up with quite a spectacular layout at The Dalat at 1200 Country Club & Private Estate.
Set in the South Central Highlands of Vietnam, the 800 hectare site, which is owned by the Centurion Group of Singapore - a majority shareholder of the project - is named after the location's altitude at 1,200 metres above sea level. In addition to being Mr Han's first design, the golf course is also the first and flagship Asian Tour Destination and with 75 per cent completion, is on track to open in the first quarter of 2015.
