Has Asia lost it? Rethinking the region's future

    ASIA'S phenomenal rise over the past five decades has been nothing short of spectacular. Led by the Asian tigers - Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan - and joined by China, India, Indonesia and others, Asia's strong economic growth has lifted millions of its people out of abject poverty.

    Across the continent, countries are powering ahead in building infrastructure, investing in education, healthcare and the services industry. The continent's bright future is backed by a dynamic and youthful workforce and the swift adoption of technology. The emergence of startups such as Indonesia's Gojek, for example, highlights the enormous potential of Asia's nascent digital economy.

    So is Asia's rise and economic dominance assured, and will the likes of India, Indonesia and Vietnam leapfrog the more developed Western economies into the ranks of the world's largest economies?
