Hawker Fete
There's no squabbling about whether Malaysian hawker food is better than Singapore's or vice versa when street food vendors from both sides of the Causeway cook side by side at Gardens By The Bay this weekend. Hawker Culture is organised by financial institution Maybank and is the start of a series of regional culinary events that covers the most popular heritage hawkers from the Asean region. On the menu are familiar favourites including the Michelin-starred Hawker Chan and his soya sauce chicken; Haig Road Putu Piring and Zhou Hua Oyster Cake. Meanwhile, Malaysia is represented by the likes of Kwong Wah Cendol; Robert's Penangstyle Char Kway Teow from Petaling Jaya; and Samy & Min Bak Kut Teh from Kuala Lumpur. Apart from the food, the weekend fest also focuses on the stories and traditions behind the cooking.
Hawker Culture takes place on Oct 5 and 6. For tickets go to www.hapz.com/festivals/hawkerculture-2019-tickets
