Van Gaal's last throw of the dice

FEW sports fans, if any at all, would know much about Shrewsbury Town Football Club, much less be able to name even a handful of their players.

The team lies on the 19th spot in League One, the third tier of England's professional football league structure, and hovers just three points above the relegation zone.

The Shrews, as they are called, play at the New Meadow stadium, a modest venue that usually attracts no more than 10,000 fans per match.

On Monday night (Tuesday 3.45am, Singapore time), that very arena will be packed like sardines for the visit of Manchester United - one of the world's most decorated teams - for what is shaping up to be a tension-filled FA Cup fifth round tie.

It's the first time these two sides will meet in the 145-year history of the world's oldest cup competition - a fixture that has already taken on greater significance as it could spell the end of Louis van Gaal's awful stint as Manchester United…
