The hopeful romantic
Erdem's collaboration with H&M shows that his mission to make beautiful clothes for every type of woman - at every price point - still holds true today
As a child, Erdem Moralioglu loved to draw - and his subjects were always girls and dresses. After watching The Nutcracker on stage with his parents, the six-year-old went home and started making costumes and paper dolls of the cast.
Today, the fashion designer better known as just Erdem has made his name with his quintessentially English nostalgia-led collections.
Moralioglu grew up in the Montreal suburbs with his Turkish father, English mother and twin sister, Sara. The Moralioglus spent their holidays visiting their grandmother in Birmingham and the other in Antakya, Turkey. Though he was raised in Montreal, Moralioglu's designs showcase a traditional English sensibility, something he attributes to his stylish Anglophile mother who was raised in Birmingham. In fact, he believes that his mixed English-Turkish heritage has shaped his work as a designer.
