Ann Siang House wants to be the hottest dining destination in the area
Tay Suan Chiang
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE a cult dining and drinking destination? A few years ago, the bar operator Harry's thought it had the answer when it opened The Club on Ann Siang Hill to much hype, with its boutique hotel-cum-hip-dining-concepts. The Disgruntled Chef was its flagship restaurant then, earning a strong following for its chef Daniel Sia.
Eventually, the restaurant closed down as chef Sia left to pursue other ventures, and before long, Harry's itself threw in the towel and The Club was no more.
Whether it failed because it was on the wrong end of Ann Siang Hill - it's located at the end of Ann Siang Road, closer to Maxwell Market rather than Club Street, where most of the action is - or if the concept didn't have staying power, is hard to tell. But its new owner is confident of swinging crowds back to this quieter end of the street.
