ABOUT 5,000 participants gathered for the Income Eco Run (IER) at the Marina Barrage on Sunday (May 26) morning.

The event was in support of a zero-waste and sustainable lifestyle ahead of World Environment Day, which falls on Jun 5.

Income Insurance also donated S$1 for every kilometre clocked by the runners, with the event raising S$60,000 in total – a 50 per cent increase from last year.

The funds raised went to the Singapore Environment Council, in support of the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

A new category was also introduced this year for children aged four to 12 years, where they could participate in either a 700-metre or 1 km run.

Athletes from the Special Olympics also took part in various categories, alongside participants of different ages, backgrounds and fitness levels.
