Inspired by tales from the maritime industry
MYTH melds with reality in The Mazu Chronicle, dance group Arts Fission's latest production that seems as much about history as it is about movement.
Over the years, Arts Fission director Angela Liong has shown a knack for nosing out stories which matter, picking out themes like the environment, architecture and culture, and getting her dancers engaged with issues. The same goes for her latest production, for which she interviewed senior citizens who used to work in the shipping industry.
The tagline for this symphonic dance production, presented in collaboration with The Philharmonic Orchestra, is "Crossing the Maritime Silk Road". Dancing around the idea of the trade waterway, she devised this production based on interviews with six veterans who made their living from the sea.
