Is the Michelin guide relevant in a pandemic?

Published Wed, Aug 25, 2021 · 09:50 PM

AFTER giving 2020 a miss because of the pandemic, the Michelin guide returns to Singapore on Sept 21 to unveil the restaurants that have earned the coveted one, two or three stars. In normal years this would be the ultimate validation of a restaurant's worth, with chefs' main preoccupation being the pursuit of this accolade. But this year, the guide launches at a time when the F&B industry is at its most vulnerable after a spate of Covid-19 disruptions.

In tomorrow's BTLifestyle, we talk to chefs and restaurateurs about the relevance of the guide in this current climate, and how they balance the bottom line with the pursuit of culinary excellence.

Meanwhile in Design, we head over to Joo Chiat, where a couple in a New York state of mind saw beyond the crumbling condition of a 50-year-old walk-up apartment, and set about to turn it into the loft home of their dreams.

In Arts, we're totally chuffed to see art galleries back in action. For the art-starved, we check out five gallery shows not to miss. And in Dining, we get caught up in the fun and tasty reverie of Peruvian/Mexican cooking at the new Canchita restaurant in Dempsey.
