Jazz wunderkind
At the tender age if 13, Joey Alexander has already garnered a standing ovation at the Grammys and released a debut album.
HE might only be 13 years old, but Indonesian-born Joey Alexander has already accomplished what a lot of musicians still dream about - not just one, but two Grammy nominations.
At the awards ceremony in February earlier this year, he was nominated for Best Improvised Jazz Solo and Best Jazz Instrumental Album, for his debut album My Favorite Things, which was released last May.
In a telephone interview from New York, where he is now based, he says: "It was a real surprise getting nominated so early but I'm so grateful that my music is being recognised. It's very encouraging, and I'm definitely going to keep playing."
