The joys of 6
BMW's new 6 Series Gran Turismo is a strange creature, but will it be a rare one, too?
Lisbon, Portugal
IF YOU can remember a time when Bruce Willis had hair (and something resembling a career), then you probably know the BMW 6 Series as a shark-nosed coupe. Like David Addison, the detective played by a smooth-talking Willis who drove a 635CSi in the TV series Moonlighting, it was as rakish in looks as it was in attitude.
Fast forward some three decades and the latest 6 Series has morphed into something beyond recognition. Yet, the liftback you see in these pictures really is the new BMW 640i, even though it no longer has a shark nose, has twice the number of doors as the original, and has really packed on the size - it weighs around 1.8 tonnes, and is only a finger's width shorter than a standard BMW 7 Series.
