Keen contest expected for captain's post
Singapore
CAMPAIGNING officially closed at midnight on Thursday, and until then Andrew Lim and Ivan Chua were busy "selling" their team manifestos at the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) Island Location. In what is expected to be one of the closest contests at the club, incumbent Mr Lim and general committee member Mr Chua are vying for the post of club captain. Mr Lim, 68, a retired businessman, is the candidate from club president Goh Ho Wee's team while Mr Chua, 46, who is in investments, is from Andrew Low's slate.
While Mr Lim, who had served as captain on two previous occasions, believes continuity is important to face the big challenges ahead, Mr Chua, a single-handicapper, sees the captain's role more as ensuring that all aspects of golf are well-looked after. Among Mr Lim's priorities are improving course conditions, maintenance, re-turfing of tees and greens, and bunker works are carried out professionally. Mr Chua wants to raise the overall golf standards at the club and ensure that SICC regains its pride of place as an elite club.
