The kindness of strangers
Facebook groups for young, local parents are a godsend; the members are unfailingly compassionate, non-judgmental and resourceful
IN my last Offbeat column, I wrote about the freakiness of all-knowing tech, sharing how my iPhone had guessed I was pregnant - even before my husband and I had breathed a word to anyone else.
(Seriously, it felt like my pregnancy test stick was still drying when my App Store asked: "Did you just add a member to your family?)
To some, my musings were a case of "the lady doth protest too much, methinks". After all, even as hyper-personalisation and artificial intelligence have posed serious privacy concerns, it's also undeniable that the Internet has made this whole business of parenting easier - at least when it comes to access to information.
