Italian family-owned fashion label Missoni opens its first flagship boutique in Asia at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands
The name Missoni is synonymous with its colourful chevron-patterned clothing. But beyond clothes, Missoni is also known as a tightly knit family business. That's why many were surprised when the 66-year old brand sold 41.2 percent of their stake to FSI Mid-Market Growth Equity Fund. Vice chairman Michele Norsa explained that the move was strategic, with a view to eventually transform the brand into a global player, with the resources to compete with other fashion and luxury giants.
In an exclusive interview with Weekend magazine, Mr Norsa explained his relationship with the Missonis: "I have known them for more than 20 years. They are a beautiful family and everyone has the brand in their heart."
While Missoni has been a globally recognised brand since 1953, it has remained a small business. FSI, a private equity firm based in Milan, whom Mr Norsa is an industrial partner with, saw the brand's potential and capacity to expand profitability.
