[SINGAPORE] Meaningful partnerships are the way Lendlease Global Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust (Lendlease Reit) reaffirms its commitment to building inclusive and resilient communities.

This year, it has focused its efforts on three long-standing beneficiaries – Awwa, Dignity Kitchen, the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) – and the Gift-a-Family initiative.

The Reit engages with Awwa’s three key groups – children, youth, and seniors – through hands-on activities and experiences. For instance, at Kindle Garden, Singapore’s first inclusive preschool, volunteers celebrated Children’s Day with creative arts and crafts. As for adults with additional needs at the Home and Day Activity Centre, a guided learning tour of Chinatown was designed to support mobility and sensory needs, complemented by care packs and meals.

Lendlease Reit continued to champion social enterprises by supporting Dignity Kitchen – a hawker training school for people with disabilities, as well as the disadvantaged. It contributed about S$7,500 through food and beverage procurement this year.

The Reit partnered with Lendlease Singapore’s annual sustainability campaign, “You Won’t Believe It’s Trash 4.0”, to provide support for the Gift-a-Family initiative. Artworks by five children, which transformed recycled materials into vibrant paintings, were put up for a charity auction. The Reit matched each bid up to $1,000. All proceeds went directly to the Gift-a-Family programme, helping families in need.

Since 2022, Lendlease Reit has also collaborated with the NNI as a supporter of its annual Chiong Ah Race, a fundraising campaign dedicated to improving lives affected by neurological conditions.

Through its digital platforms such as mall banners, wayfinding screens, and the Lendlease Plus app, the Reit has helped raise awareness and encourage contributions to the NNI Fund. This advances patient care, neuroscience research and education.

When selecting beneficiaries, Lendlease Reit aligns with its social focus areas – economic prosperity, community inclusion, diversity, equity and inclusion, and well-being.

For the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre’s annual Great Singapore Give campaign this year, the Reit will continue to work with its key beneficiaries.

The Reit said with support from the Lendlease Foundation, it was able to identify beneficiaries that aligned with its vision and mission of meaningful and sustainable partnerships.

A key move was to adopt the sustainability philanthropy framework introduced by the National Council of Social Service. The structured approach has helped the Reit evolve from ad-hoc efforts to a more strategic, long-term commitment to the community, ensuring that its contributions create a lasting impact.

Integrate giving into its culture and identity

For the company, balancing profit and purpose starts by aligning its social impact efforts to its core values and business objectives. By integrating giving into its operations and decision-making, its people are not only driving financial results, but also contributing meaningfully to the communities it serves.

Employee involvement in giving and volunteering is a core part of Lendlease Reit’s culture, driven by the support from the operations team at Lendlease’s malls. Leveraging digital platforms within the malls and providing venue sponsorship to promote active interactions are some ways in which it does this.

A dedicated committee within the team takes ownership of planning and executing community initiatives. This approach fosters a sense of ownership and makes volunteering a collaborative effort.

The Reit also tries to inspire others to join the giving journey by collaborating with partners who share similar values.

In the future, scalability is key to amplifying its community impact, the Reit said. It aims to create a multiplier effect, where resources, partnerships, and innovation combine to deliver broader and deeper benefits for its beneficiaries.

To do this, it is working towards leveraging Lendlease Foundation grants. This will enable the Reit to expand the scope and reach of its programmes, providing non-governmental organisations with enhanced support for capacity building, programme development, and long-term sustainability.
