Local banks usher in Chinese New Year with focus on sustainability, arts

    OVER the past few weeks, the trio of local banks – UOB, DBS and OCBC – welcomed the Year of the Rabbit.

    UOB partnered around 1,500 clients to raise S$2.4 million for various charities, including The Business Times Budding Artists Fund, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and Central Singapore CDC. 

    The action took place on Jan 26, and as part of the fundraising efforts, two art pieces were auctioned off to Kelvin Lim and Neo Kah Kiat for a bid of S$283,888 and S$200,000 respectively.

    DBS held its annual SpringFest celebration from Jan 30-31, where more than 1,000 customers gathered to partake in a special lo hei. It had 55 ingredients, as the bank is also commemorating its 55th anniversary.

    Furthering efforts to combat the nation-wide issue of food waste, all unserved food was frozen in industrial-blast chillers and donated to The Food Bank Singapore, which serves over 250 community organisations locally.

    At OCBC’s celebration event called “Flight to Prosperity”, the bank showcased five homegrown SMEs and introduced them to the wider business community.

    The festivities took place From Feb 1-2 with guests from close to 1,000 businesses taking part.
