Ever felt at a loss when faced with the unknown? Singapore-based artist Allison M. Low felt this way, and decided to do something about her sudden sense of displacement, turning her "unconscious cravings" into something tangible.

She created 10 paintings, each a careful balance of delicate graphite pencil strokes against layers of pastels, gouache, and acrylic. They represent an attempt at wresting control in the face of the unknown.

The paintings suggest a rich interior world fuelled by visual metaphors: apples represent peace, bats are synonymous with happiness, and cicadas ward off mortality. Of the exhibition's title, Ms Low says, "The Luckier refers to a kind of ideal self: one that doesn't doubt opportunity, indulge in self-sabotage, or allow the absurdity of an ideal to ruin the pursuit of it."
