LVMH names UK designer Sarah Burton as Givenchy creative director
FRENCH luxury goods company LVMH on Monday (Sep 9) named Sarah Burton, the British fashion designer who was behind the Princess of Wales’ 2011 wedding dress, as the new creative director for its Givenchy label.
Burton, 50, joins Givenchy having worked most recently at rival Kering’s Alexander McQueen label. She will present her first collection for Givenchy next March, added LVMH.
“The arrival of Sarah Burton as head of our creative design is a very exciting moment for Givenchy,” said Givenchy CEO Alessandro Valenti in a statement.
“Her remarkable career path and creative vision have already won her a vast fan base, and we are certain that under her direction, Givenchy will continue to innovate and captivate an extensive audience across the world stage,” he added.
Burton was creative director at Alexander McQueen for more than a decade after its founder’s suicide. She has designed clothes for a host of global stars including actor Cate Blanchett and singer Lady Gaga.
The fashion designer said making Kate Middleton’s dress for her wedding to Prince William in 2011 was “the experience of a lifetime”.

Burton left Alexander McQueen last year, sparking speculation in the fashion world as to what her next move might be.
She said in a statement on Monday that she was “enthusiastic” about her new job, and would bring her own vision and “convictions” to Givenchy, where she will be in charge of all women’s and men’s collections.
