Mars outing unravels and crash-lands
Irish director Ruair Robinson's The Last Days on Mars is one small step on Mars but one giant misstep for box-office takings, writes DYLAN TAN
THERE'S probably only one reason to catch The Last Days on Mars - to satisfy your own curiosity.
It was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at Cannes earlier this year alongside Ilo Ilo and Irish director Ruair Robinson was up against Anthony Chen for the Camera d'Or award. No prize for guessing who won.
The Last Days on Mars has plenty of indie heart with its modest production budget and a great cast; but despite Robinson's best efforts to reach for the stars in his debut feature, the film somehow crash-lands mid-course and leaves the audience lost in space.
