Mas Selamat comedy hits the spot
DELICIOUSLY irreverent yet sweetly humane, the new comedy by celebrated playwright Alfian Sa'at is a complete laugh riot.
The premise of Kakak Kau Punya Laki (Your Sister's Husband) is a daring one: Four attractive, upwardly-mobile Selamat sisters are at their wit's end with their unfashionable oddball sister - Maslindah Binte Selamat, or Mas Selamat, for short.
Unlike them, Mas holds fast to arcane traditions and superstitions. She resists transforming herself into the so-called "modern, moderate Malay-Muslim" and does not care to pursue the Singapore dream of cars, careers and condos.
