Milan Design Week highlights
FOR one week in April, the biggest names in design and architecture descended on Milan for the most important design event of the year. Visitors – of which there were 20 per cent more compared to last year – were treated to a showcase of new designs at the main Fiera Milano convention hall, as well as off-site installations held at century-old palazzos that lent a majestic backdrop to the goings-on.
In Friday’s edition of BT Lifestyle, we speak to Singapore architects and designers to get their insights on this year’s event, which saw classic furniture being revived along with experimental works and sustainable designs. From the psychedelic installations by progressive concept store 10 Corso Como to the re-issues of Cini Boeri’s Tobago sofa, there was something for every taste at Milan Design Week.
Also in Design, the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) Architectural Design Awards 2024 announces its winners this week, and we’ll provide an update on who’s the cream of the crop this year.
In Books, guess what more people are reading – horror novels. Against a climate of political and economic uncertainty, horror tales are seeing a surge in popularity as people turn to them to help in coping with their anxieties. Find out which books are scaring people silly in our round-up.
And in Dining, it’s time for some comforting Indian food at Akasa, where you can find casual and hearty biryani, masalas and good-value lunch sets in the heart of the CBD. For all this and more, get your copy of BT this Friday.
