This is the last year that avant-garde theatre director Ong Keng Sen is heading the Singapore International Festival of Arts. His swan song for the festival is Trojan Women, a contemporary update of the ancient Greek tragedy about the women of Troy who are about to be enslaved, after their husbands are killed by the Greeks.
Ong is collaborating with the National Theatre of Korea, celebrated pansori singer Anh Sook-sun, as well as famous K-pop composer Jung Jae-Il, to completely reimagine the story as a minimalist changgeuk (traditional Korean opera).
In Korean with English surtitles. Sept 7 to 9, 8pm, Victoria Theatre. Tickets from Sistic.
