THE Business Times Corporate Golf League has grown in both stature and numbers since its inception back in 2010.

This year’s league tees off at Tanah Merah Country Club’s Tampines course on Thursday (Mar 6), with four other legs taking place over the next two months until the finale on May 9.

The other four venues are Singapore Island Country Club, Laguna National Golf Resort Club, Orchid Country Club and Sentosa Golf Club. The tournament is based on a System 36 modified stableford format.

There are nine teams in the competitive category, up from six last year. Among them are automotive dealer Car Times, and Gayatri, a popular restaurant along Race Course Road.

Car Times won the tournament back in 2019, and they have typically performed well over the years.

Of the 10 players in the Car Times team, seven are single-handicappers, with former national golfer Vincent Khua (handicap index 1) and former Singapore Island Country Club women’s champion Lyn Yeo (handicap 12.9) at the helm.

Team Hugo Boss, the winners in 2023, have also put together a strong team of seven men and six women that includes former national player Low Wee Jin and sisters Denise Ng and Jaymie Ng, both single-handicappers.

Defending champions Singapore Pools have put together a powerful combination of staff and guests led by the accomplished single-handicapper Samir Bedi.

Singapore Global Trust, the runners-up in 2024, will again rely on national player, 16-year-old amateur Chen Xingtong, who recently competed at the HSBC Women’s World Championship at Sentosa Golf Club last weekend.

Other teams in the competitive category are Performance Motors, OCC, SPH Media and CLA Global TS.

Among the teams in the Social section are Performance Motors, Takashimaya, Mitsubishi Electric, Paragon Reit, Olam Group, I-Kare, Simply Golf, OCBC, KPMG, One RHT and the Singapore Golf Association.

Performance Motors is the official Hole-in-One sponsor and Mitsubishi Electric is the Novelty Hole sponsor.

At a networking evening event on Feb 25, The Business Times editor Chen Huifen thanked the sponsors and teams for their support of the annual league.

“This golf tournament is a perfect platform for networking, interacting and socialising. I believe that golf has many other virtues, and I wish the teams an enjoyable outing at five of the best club venues in Singapore,” she said.
