Mothers in business
IT’S Mother’s Day this weekend, when the woman who gave you life is feted with food, flowers and a day’s worth of appreciation. But as all mums will tell you, one day a year isn’t enough, given the amount of sacrifice made in bringing up children while carving out a career or business at the same time. This Friday in BTLifestyle, we put the spotlight on mumpreneurs, and how they juggle building up their own businesses while fulfilling their roles as wives and mothers.
We speak to three ex-career women about their own experiences in striking out on their own while raising a young family. One runs several outlets offering eyelash services, another is a founder of a babysitting app and the third operates a freeze-dried breast milk facility for breastfeeding mothers. But what they have in common are their own ways of balancing work and family. For mumpreneur wannabes, listen to their stories for tips on how to prioritise and master the art of give and take.
Meanwhile, arts lovers have a lot to look forward to including the mesmerising performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a production of the Chinese classic The Butterfly Lovers, and a new National Art Gallery exhibition that looks at the roots of video art.
And if you’re hungry, check out the creative dimsum that Chinese restaurant stalwart Peony Jade has for you at its new premises in the Amara Singapore. Get all this and more with Friday’s issue of BT.
