Skoda pulls a fast one with the Octavia RS
The new model will rely on a powerful engine to swim against a tide of rising COE premiums.

SKODA is hoping to get its 2022 off to a flying start by launching a redesigned version of its fastest model here, the Octavia RS.
It went on sale this week for S$199,900, including Certificate Of Entitlement (COE).
The money buys a 5-seater liftback with plenty of cabin room, a huge boot and contemporary connectivity features, but the Octavia RS' claim to fame is an engine borrowed from an iconic car. Skoda's parent company Volkswagen has slipped the 245 horsepower turbo engine from its Golf GTI under the Octavia RS' bonnet.
New features on the revamped model include driver aids that boost safety, such as sensors that let the car brake automatically when it detects obstacles or hazards.
It can also warn occupants against opening a door into the path of an approaching cyclist.
Like other mass-market brands, Skoda faces a tough year as rising COE prices push buyers toward premium products, but its cars cling to a recipe of providing value for money.
The Octavia RS is for drivers who want a little spice on top.
