Turbocharged fun
The Lexus IS200t F Sport delivers familiar Lexus luxury with newfound driving fun.
THE adoption of the four-cylinder turbocharged engine has not only allowed Lexus models to lower engine displacement, but also completely changed the character of its cars. The entry-level naturally aspirated 2.5-litre V6 may be smooth, but Lexus' in-house designed and manufactured twin-scroll turbo endows the smaller 2.0-litre petrol unit with a newfound punchiness.
Take the Lexus IS200t for example. The turbo produces the maximum 350 Newton-metres of torque early - just 1,650 rpm - giving the compact sedan strong acceleration from a standing start.
Elasticity is also excellent; floor the gas pedal while cruising and the IS200t's responds with virtually no turbo lag.
