Variable space
The Volkswagen Golf Variant offers a lot of extra space for just slightly more car.
WHEN it comes to urban transportation, the compact five-door hatchback has to be one of the most versatile models for its excellent combination of manoeuvrability and a relatively roomy cabin and boot.
But for those who want a bit more load lugging ability, there is the Volkswagen Golf Variant. The Variant is an extended version of the Golf hatchback but not in the long-wheelbase-limo sense.
As a compact wagon, it has pleasant proportions because it doesn't have a long tail. At 4,562 mm long, the Golf Variant is only 307 mm more than the Golf hatchback. If you are Imperially inclined, that's about one foot extra to an overall length just shy of 15 feet.
