Singapore Dance Theatre's annual triple-bill evening Masterpiece in Motion returns with crowd favourites, George Balanchine's Serenade and Theme and Variations, as well as Choo-San Goh's Fives (pictured). Performed to Tschaikovsky's Serenade For Strings in C, Op. 48, Balanchine's Serenade remains one of his most beloved works, lovely and mysterious, and full of lyrical possibilities. Meanwhile, Balanchine's Theme And Variations, also performed to Tschaikovsky, is a grand and ambitious creation that magically never feels heavy or fussy. Finally there's Goh's Fives, danced by five men and ten women, and featuring Goh's stylistic trademarks such as angular lines and dynamic formations. It is performed to Bloch's Concerto Grosso No. 1.
Masterpiece In Motion runs at the Esplanade Theatre on Aug 16 and 17
