A Musical Tale
Two Chinese literary classics, Dream of the Red Chamber and The Battle of the Red Cliff, will be told in music at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra's opening concert of its 2018/2019 season. The acclaimed Chinese soprano Wu Bixia (pictured) as well as Singapore tenor Jonathan Charles Tay will play popular characters of the novels, as Jeffrey Low narrates. This concert will be conducted by SCO music director Tsung Yeh.
Wu is the deputy to China's National People's Congress and a teacher at the China Conservatory. She has been hailed by the media as "the nightingale that melds the East and the West". She has also made regular appearances on China Central Television and performed internationally to glowing reviews.
SCO performs Dream of the Red Chamber and Red Cliff on July 13 and 14 at 8pm at SCO Concert Hall at Singapore Conference Hall. Tickets from Sistic.
