BANDS that play the Singapore Indoor Stadium probably all dream of one day being able to fill the National Stadium just across the road. Britpop group Coldplay not only achieved that on its fourth visit here but also did it with plenty of style by selling out two nights last Friday and Saturday. Over 100,000 tickets were snapped up in hours - something we don't see happening here every day.
To think that back in 2001 when the quartet played a co-headlining show with Travis at the Indoor Stadium, the latter was the better-known and bigger act due to its massive sophomore album The Man Who (1999).
Coldplay was the newcomer then, playing in support of its debut record Parachutes (2000) but steadily building a buzz that, well, has led to its popularity eclipsing that of Travis' over time.
