Musical-comedy hits the right notes
Dylan Tan
DESPITE what some might say, there's nothing wrong with sticking to what you know or do best. It's for this reason McDonald's doesn't have pizzas on their menu, Durex hasn't diversified its business into party balloons and Singaporeans overwhelmingly decided to vote the PAP back into power last Friday.
Similarly, Royston Tan hasn't strayed from his winning formula (heng ah!) for his latest film - right down to using numbers in its title.
3688 treads the musical veins of his last previous works, 881 (2007) and 12 Lotus (2008), weaving Chinese oldies into the plot and hitting all the right notes along the way.
