TAKE a relatively obscure Prohibition Era cocktail and reinvent it for the eco-friendly, Instagram-ready age with locally-sourced ingredients and playful presentation. That's the bright idea behind the Bright Idea, the monthly special for May at LuLu's Lounge.

"Prohibition counter-intuitively was a time of great innovation for cocktails," says head bartender Tertius Wharton, referring to the period from 1920 to 1933 when liquor was illegal in the United States.

Low-quality moonshine was the most commonly available spirit at the time - and had to be jazzed up. Thus the creation of the Bee's Knees, a honey-and-gin concoction that inspired the Bright Idea.
