A new moon
Designers show how they give a second life to mooncake boxes that are too pretty to trash.

The Mid-Autumn Festival tells the story of Chang'e and Hou Yi. In the very distant past, 10 suns had risen together into the skies and scorched the earth. The archer Hou Yi shot down nine of them, and was rewarded with the elixir of immortality. Unfortunately, his wife Chang'e drank the elixir and flew towards the heavens, choosing the moon as her residence and thereafter becoming known as the Moon Goddess.
Inspired by this story, the team at DP Architects and DP Green have turned the mooncake box from Fairmont Singapore into a terraced planter box, using a variety of moss and airplants, which are suited for growing indoors.
