New soloists for SDT Don Quixote
IF the classic epic ballet Swan Lake is an ensemble performance designed to showcase an entire company of dancers, then Don Quixote is a platform for soloists and principal dancers to shine.
The Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) is taking the opportunity to debut its new soloists in its second staging of Don Quixote, which it debuted in 2014. "As this is our second performance of the full production, I do see the dancers performing it better - as they have a better understanding of the ballet, more confidence and more strength," says artistic director Janek Schergen.
The lead roles of inkeeper's daughter Kitri and her lover, the barber Basilio, will again be played by Rosa Park/Chihiro Uchida and Chen Peng/Kenya Nakamura respectively.
